HOW TO TUNE IN FOR KUNDALINI YOGA

Before Class and Before Chanting or Practicing Kundalini Yoga

In Kundalini Yoga, before every class and personal practice we all tune in. We use Adi Mantra - ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO.
Translation: I bow to the Creative Wisdom, I bow to the Divine Teacher within.
This mantra is used for “tuning in” to the divine flow and self-knowledge within each of us and linking us to the Golden Chain of wisdom. It is chanted at least three times before practicing Kundalini Yoga.
It is also very useful when we just need to be focused.
A translates it as: "Oh transcendental, transparent, “Guru Dev” is transparent. “Dev” means transparent. “Guru” means who brings light into darkness. I bow to you, “Ong Namo,” Oh creative total self."

Instructions

  • Tune in before every chant, or kriya or mudra

  • Say the mantra - 3 times to 5 times

  • Hands are held in Prayer Pose, Palms together at the the center of the chest with the fingers slightly away from the thumbs, whose sides firmly touch the sternum.

Mangala Charan Mantra
To clear the clouds of doubt and opens us to guidance and protection. Mangala Charan Mantra can also be included after Adi Mantra when tuning in to a Kundalini Yoga class or personal practice. Although not inappropriate before tuning in for a general Kundalini Yoga class it is always included when tuning in for Sadhana.

Translation:
I bow to the primal wisdom. (before time began)
I bow to the wisdom through the ages. (When time began)
I bow to the true wisdom.
I bow to the great unseen wisdom.

Note: Mangala Charan Mantra at Winter Solstice in the early 70's YogiJi sent the then teacher from Toronto to a meeting we were having and told us Yogiji wanted us to include Mangala Charan Mantra after we chanted Adi Mantra at morning Sadhana to protect him from all the "negativity" we were processing. (Shiva Singh Khalsa) We would not typically use it to tune in to a general yoga class although it may be appropriate when starting a workshop.

We also do use Mangala Charan Mantra for protection. For example we chant it when ever we are starting our car and to create a zone of protection around the four corners of the vehicle, from left, to back, to right and finally in front.
